Dune Study is a reminder of the simple things in life for which we feel gratitude. The ocean breeze shuffling the order of the sea oats, the smell of the salty air, the long shadows procured by a setting sun makes me pause for nature’s simple yet beautiful impact.
Painted in plein air, this painting was done on the beach of Hilton Head Island, under a tight timeframe as I was battling the ever-present challenge of afternoon plein air painting: the setting sun. The long shadows of the sea oats romanced me while I was deciding my composition. I dove in, and two hours later, I walked away with this little beauty as a reward for my perseverance and concentration.
